Melissa Burkley
Melissa Burkley received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She is a renowned expert on prejudice and her research has been featured in The New York Times, Cosmopolitan, and Oprah Radio. She also authors a highly successful Psychology Today blog entitled The Social Thinker.
Her fiction weaves her knowledge of psychology with speculative elements to explore socially conscious horror, touching on themes of racism, sexism, homophobia and “otherness.” Her literary work has appeared in Tainted Love: Women in Horror Anthology, Night Terrors (Vol. 8 & 14), Women in Horror Annual 2, Hinnom Magazine, Gamut Magazine and Poets & Writers Magazine.
Her poetry has appeared in Spooky Magazine and the HWA Poetry Showcase XI. She lives in Maine with her author/poet husband Ed Burkley and the ghost of her beloved Norwich Terrier Fizzgig. When not writing, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and roaming old cemeteries.
